.450
Ackley Magnum
The .450
Ackley distinguished itself on my trip to Zambia in September
1998. This rifle is built on a Sako AV action, with standard factory magazine
box and trigger (trigger set at 3 pounds). The barrel is a 22" MAB chrome
moly blank, turned to a custom profile to replicate a Rigby barrel. Stock
is New Zealand Walnut. All stock work completed by Geoff Slee.
The
rifle weighs in at 10 and one half pounds when unloaded. This weight was
deliberately requested so as to help control the stout recoil the .450
generates. 500gn Woodleigh Weldcore and and FMJ handloads produce 2130
fps to 2260fps, depending on which make of case I use. All metal work and
project coordination by Peter Van Meurs at Pro-Ccal trading.
