1000 YARD SHOOT

1000 yard benchrest shooting is a great learning experience. It really shows what works for shooting long range. At the moment, I am trying to find a range where my benchrest club can run 1000 yard events in my own state.

The following photos are from the weekend of 30 - 31 May 1998 when I headed to Canberra for my first ever 1000 yard shoot.

Ian Lampl (background), Stuart Elliott (foreground), sighting in for the heavy gun event.

Stuart Elliott (far bench) Ian Lampl (center), Jim McKinley (foreground) , shooting the heavy gun event.

Alan Peake (far bench) Ken Melgaard (center), Bob Bell (foreground) , shooting the light gun event. Seated in the background is Jim McIntosh. Jim is 86, and using his "mouse gun", a .223 Rem, he out shot both Bob and I.

Now, if you look closely - over stuart's shoulder, through the gap in the trees, you can see the vague outline of the target line.

A slightly better view of the target line. Straight over Jim McKinley's head (right bench).

Winners for the day. From left to right, Jim McKinley - best score, heavy, Alan Peake - best score, light,  Ian Lampl - best group, heavy, Bill MacFarlane - best group, light.
