Hunting and Shooting Links
Mail Lists and News Groups
These are the main message boards that
I frequent and mailing lists that I receive.
Collectively, there is a great knowledge
base represented here
| Long Range Rifle | This is a mail list that I moderate. It is dedicated to long range rifle accuracy topics, including LR benchrest, fullbore / high power and varmint shooting. |
| SRM Page | The varmint hunting list is perhaps a little less formal than some other lists. Mostly, the feel is more like being at a clubhouse engaged in discussion with friends. The informal feel does not detract from the level of information, and the participants are generally pretty keen (some might say obsessed). Follow this link to the SRM page for info on how to subscribe. |
| BR list | The benchrest list carries some interesting discussion for those interested in precision shooting. The list is dedicated to center fire bench rest shooting. Follow the link through Xtremeaccuracy, to the benchrest list page. |
| Benchrest.com | The Benchrest.com forum is very active and is visited by some of the biggest names in the sport. The topics are mostly about short range BR, but there is some long range discussion as well. |
| Go Go Varmint | This board is one of the best varmint oriented sites available. The daily volume of messages is pretty prolific. |
| Long Range Hunting | This forum covers most aspects of long range shooting and is one of the best long range resources available on the net. |
| Saubier.com | This is a great for small caliber shooting topics, particularly the discussion board. This site is especially good for people looking for information on sub caliber's such as 17, 19 and 20. |
Clubs that I belong to
| SSAA | The Sporting Shooters Association of Australia is kind of the Australian version of the NRA. |
| Melbourne Benchrest Club | I am on the committee of this club. We shoot regular 100 and 200 yard benchrest events and 500 meter "fly" shoots. |
| Big Game Rifle Club | This club caters to people who like to shoot BIG caliber rifles. There are some very nice rifles owned by the members. |
| Varmint Hunters Association | I joined this mostly for the magazine. It makes good reading each quarter. |
Sites of interest
| ACT Benchrest | The ACT benchrest club is one of the premier BR clubs in Australia. They run some of the most prestigious, best organised events in the country. |
| African Safari Consultants | I booked my 1998 Zambia Safari through African Safari Consultants. They were very helpful, and I would recommend them to anyone considering a hunt in Africa. |
| Balla Balla Safaris' | I have not actually booked through Balla Balla, but I have known one of the company principles for some years. They are a well run out fit and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone wanting a safari in South Africa or Zambia |
| BenchrestBulletin | This is a good source of information on Australian benchrest competition results, shoot dates, etc. |
| Berger Bullets | Berger provide match and varmint bullets in a range of calibers and weights. They are a well made, accurate bullet. |
| D&B Supply | Bill Shehane specialises in long range benchrest supplies. He is a great bloke to deal with and a very accomplished 1000 yard shooter too. |
| Dries Visser | I hunted with Dries in Zambia and would highly recommend him. He runs an excellent outfit. |
| NC 1000yd Club | The Hawks Ridge 1000 yard benchrest club are a great bunch of folks. They sure know how to have a good time and sure made me feel very welcome when I visited there in September 2000. There is some very interesting information such as equipment lists and competition scores on this site. |
| Lilja Barrels | The Lilja site is packed with information for anyone with an interest in precision shooting. I cant vouch for their barrels first hand as yet, but hopefully I will get one for one of my new projects. |
| McMillan Home Page | I Have McMillan stocks on two of my rifles. Having tried a range of fiberglass stock makers, I can safely say that McMillan are among the very best. I highly recommend them. |
| Pacnor Barrels | I have ordered several barrels from Pacnor and have found both their barrels and service to be excellent! |
|
Safari Press |
I have ordered quite a few books from these guys. They offer a great chance to read some of the best hunting and firearms literature of the last century, as well as publishing some great contemporary authors. |
| Shilen Barrels | I have ordered several Shilen barrels via the net, and have found them to be excellent to deal with. They make one of the very best barrels available. |
| World Time | It can be difficult to know exactly what time it is in another country. This site gives me a 24 hour timeline on the differences between my location and the location I'm calling. I find this really beneficial when planing an international hunt. |
