Zimbabwe 1994
This was my first trip to Africa, and my first overseas hunt. I booked 10 days rather than the recommended 7 days. Just as well too, since I didn’t take my first animal until the 7th day of the trip. I was exclusively bowhunting this time, although it was the last time I shot a bow. |
My first African
trophy, and still my favorite. Blue wildebeest have a reputation for being
hard to kill, but one arrow at 20 yards put this one down in 10 seconds.
This kudu is perhaps my best African trophy (although, as I said the blue wildebeest is my favorite). A 54" kudu shot with a bow is a pretty good score. |
This impala is
no monster, although its representative of trophy quality in this area.
Foot stalked and bow shot, its still a trophy I am quite proud of.
On the last day of the trip I was pretty much winding down. The farmer's daughter in law wanted some guinea fowl to cook up, so I borrowed an old Mauser .22 LR with shockingly miss aligned sights and managed to bag these two. |
